In California, it is illegal to sell or use documents that are falsified. These documents include any passport, immigration visa, employment authorization card, birth certificate, driver's license, identification card, or social security card and others. This also includes currencies such as United States bills.
Anyone who makes or sells false government documents to conceal the true citizenship status of another person may be convicted of a felony and could receive a sentence of up to five years in jail or a $75,000 fine for each offense.
Anyone caught using falsified government documents can also be charged with a felony and could face up to five years in a California prison or a $25,000 fine for each offense.
This law applies to campaign materials printed with blatant false information, including but not limited to a candidate's endorsement, or false information about another candidate.
