ExperienceJulia Mezhinsky Jayne is a trial lawyer who concentrates her practice on white collar and general criminal defense. She represents a broad array of individuals in both state and federal cases ranging from criminal grand jury matters, to all phases of criminal trial proceedings. Her white collar criminal defense matters include prosecutions involving alleged export, mail and wire fraud violations, antitrust, criminal contempt, tax evasion, and prosecutions with significant asset forfeiture implications. Her experience in general criminal defense runs the gamut -- from violent felonies and vehicular manslaughter to drug possession and driving under the influence. She has tried 30 criminal cases and one civil case to a jury.
Before founding Campbell & Jayne LLP with Gail A. Campbell, Ms. Jayne served as a Deputy District Attorney in Contra Costa County. There, she tried numerous misdemeanor, felony, and juvenile cases. After leaving the District Attorney's Office, Ms. Jayne worked as a civil litigator at Larson · King in San Francisco. There, she co-chaired a complex environmental civil litigation insurance coverage trial against an international corporation. Most recently, Ms. Jayne worked as a criminal defense attorney and civil litigator at Sideman & Bancroft LLP. On the civil side, she represented plaintiffs and defendants in civil litigation matters involving major fraud, unfair competition, defamation, commercial disputes, and civil rights violations. On the criminal end, she was involved in the representation of several high-profile white collar defense clients in addition to representing numerous individuals charged with federal and state felonies and misdemeanors, all of which resulted in favorable results for the client.
Ms. Jayne also served as a legal intern to the Organized Crime Strike Force for the Department of Justice, U.S. Attorneys' Office in San Francisco.
Ms. Jayne is fluent in Russian.
Professional Involvement
Ms. Jayne is an Adjunct Professor at University of California, Hastings College of the Law, where she has been teaching courses in Trial Advocacy since 2003.
She is also a member of the Criminal Justice Act Panel ("CJA Panel") for the Northern District of California, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, is co-chair of the Criminal Law & Government Investigations Section of the San Francisco Bar Association's Barrister's Club, and is a board member of the California State Bar Criminal Law Executive Committee.
